Lyca’s Gnanam Foundation has donated funds to Save the Children in support of its work to help the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
On the 9th November, Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the central Philippines with winds of up to 195 miles an hour. In the trail of destruction entire communities have been wiped away and families separated.
Save the Children is doing everything it can to help children and their families. Teams were on the ground before the typhoon hit and now have staff in Tacloban, Cebu, Bohol and Iloilo City, some of the worst affected areas. The organisation’s water and sanitation specialists have finalised their assessments of where the need is greatest for this vital support, and will be distributing water tanks, latrines and the supporting equipment in Tacloban, Roxasand the surrounding areas in the coming days.
With the money donated by Lyca’s Gnanam Foundation, up to 200 families and children who have lost possessions or their homes will now have essential household items such as blankets, sleeping mats, and children’s clothes.
Subaskaran Allirajah, Group Chairman of Lyca Mobile, commented:
“Many families are left in need of serious support following the terrible destruction caused by Typhoon Haiyan. I am convinced that Save the Children is using every tool at its disposal to help children and their families and we are glad to be in a position to lend our support in whichever way we can.”
“Our thoughts go out to the victims of the catastrophe and we all hope that the grip of disaster will be eased dramatically over the coming weeks.”
