Sarvodaya’s safe learning spaces projects (SLS) are based in Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu and provide children with safe learning spaces where they can gain an education. SLS not only provide comprehensive education in a safe, attractive environment, but they also organise home visits for children who have dropped out of school to facilitate their re-engagement with learning.
The basic needs programme helps those who are mentally ill and thus marginalised by society. Basic needs work in Batticaloa was set up using child volunteer committees where they use a child to child approach to address mental health issues. With the help of Basic needs, since January 2013, we have trained a total of 574 children in leadership skills, 14 CVC’s (WHAT IS THIS?), recorded meeting minutes and handled finances. They also trained educators on the mental wellbeing of children and positive and negative teaching practices.
The Youth Business project in Sri Lanka enables young people in Ampara to establish and grow their businesses. They help young people develop business plans and mentor them through the application of these plans.
Sewalanka help improve women’s chances in life across 4 tea estates in the central province of Sri Lanka. They provide financial and literary support, train women in entrepreneurial development and conduct tea estate meetings.
Youth Employability Initiative works to enhance the employability of 1,500 disadvantaged young people in Chennai. The Market Aligned Skills Training (MAST) programme creates strong links between employer’s requirements and the skills of disadvantaged young people in need of work. MAST offers training in a chosen technical field as well as critical employability and life skills.
